AVS Format Updated

December 24th, 2005 by Multimedia Mike

I updated the AVS format document today. VAG and I believe it to be correct. But we won’t know for sure until something (maybe me, maybe someone else) creates a fresh implementation based on the information.

You wrote in the AVS format doc “However, the videos always appear to be encoded at a resolution of 318×198.” I am pretty sure that was a deliberate decision, because both 318 and 198 are evenly divisible by the block sizes 2×2, 2×3, and 3×2.

I often state “apparently” in my documents because I do not want to sound too authoritative when I have only seen 2 or 3 sample files. But I have it on good authority that most in not all of the files in the game were encoded at 318×198.
