The people who engineered these machines came up with some goofy ideas. I&#8217;ll always remember Tom Hanks in the 1988 movie <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/title\/tt0094737\/\">Big<\/a> where he had no qualms about calling out the naked emperor by stating that it wouldn&#8217;t be much fun to play with a transforming building. In light of that, it&#8217;s pretty hard for me to understand how I ended up with <strong>4<\/strong> of these Gobots (I&#8217;m pretty sure they came from that line) that were actually <strong>rocks<\/strong> that transformed into robots.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/02-rockbots-robots.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/02-rockbots-robots-s.jpg\" alt=\"Rockbots -- robot forms\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>See? I recall that these were all benevolent Gobots:<\/p>\n<p><em>As &#8220;adapted&#8221; on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cracked.com\/index.php?name=News&#038;sid=2335&#038;pageid=2\">Cracked.com&#8217;s Poor Man&#8217;s Version feature (#3: Gobots vs. Transformers)<\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/14-gobots robots-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/14-gobots-robots-1-s.jpg\" alt=\"Gobots batch #1, robot form\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>And their transformations:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/14-gobots-transformed-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/14-gobots-transformed-1-s.jpg\" alt=\"Gobots batch #1, transformed\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>A second batch of Gobots. 2 Shuttle Gobots (don&#8217;t remember how I procured both).<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/15-gobots-robots-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/15-gobots-robots-2-s.jpg\" alt=\"Gobots batch #2, robot form\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The F-15 Gobot is Leader-1, head dude of the good Gobots. The Soviet MiG was a bad Gobot, though not the leader. None too subtle in the metaphors there.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/15-gobots-transformed-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/15-gobots-transformed-2-s.jpg\" alt=\"Gobots batch #2, transformed\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>And a batch of busted Gobots. I can pretty well certify that these were all toys that other kids gave me after they didn&#8217;t want them anymore because I usually took much better care of my toys.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/80s-robots\/16-gobots-robots-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/80s-robots\/16-gobots-robots-3-s.jpg\" alt=\"Gobots batch #3, robot form\"\/><br \/>\n<em>Click for larger image<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Upper left robot is Scooter (thinking outside the box on the names). Quite a piece, that.
