First and foremost, I corrected the encoder&#8217;s DC prediction. A lot of rules govern that mode and if you don&#8217;t have it right, error cascades through the image. Now the encoder and decoder both agree on every fine detail of the bitstream syntax and rendering thereof. It still encodes to a neo-impressionist mosaic piece, but at least I&#8217;ve ironed the bugs out of this phase:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bbb-accurate.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Big Buck Bunny title - more accurate rendering\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bbb-accurate.jpg 640w, https:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bbb-accurate-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>I also made it possible to adjust the quantization levels inside the encoder.
