{"id":254,"date":"2006-04-24T09:33:16","date_gmt":"2006-04-24T16:33:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/?p=254"},"modified":"2006-04-24T17:40:40","modified_gmt":"2006-04-25T00:40:40","slug":"lagarith-and-msu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/lagarith-and-msu\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagarith And MSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While raiding  Wikipedia for scant pieces of multimedia information they might have that are not yet in the <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.multimedia.cx\/\">MultimediaWiki<\/a>, I learned of 2 new lossless video codecs&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.multimedia.cx\/index.php?title=Lagarith\">Lagarith<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.multimedia.cx\/index.php?title=MSU_Lossless_Video\">MSU Lossless Video<\/a>. I&#8217;ve heard people grumble about how lossless video codecs just don&#8217;t perform. I know of one grumbler in particular &#8212; you know who you are &#8212; who claims that <a href=\"http:\/\/flac.sourceforge.net\/\">FLAC<\/a> actually outperforms the nominal special-purpose lossless video codec. I am expecting a full report from you on how these new codecs stack up. The MSU technology is proprietary but I have started to document the GPL&#8217;d Lagarith codec in the Wiki. The author contributed a write-up of the surface details. I am trying to plod through the control flow. It&#8217;s a bit slow-going though since many of the crucial functions are written in MMX-optimized ASM.<\/p>\n<p>In other Wiki news, I finally found a logo:<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/wiki.multimedia.cx\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wiki.multimedia.cx\/images\/wiki.png\" alt=\"MultimediaWiki Logo\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>It is the same one seen on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Multimedia\">Wikipedia&#8217;s multimedia entry<\/a> and apparently comes from a set of KDE icons <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlitus.net\/\">made here<\/a>.
