{"id":224,"date":"2006-03-15T20:51:21","date_gmt":"2006-03-16T04:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/?p=224"},"modified":"2006-03-15T20:52:12","modified_gmt":"2006-03-16T04:52:12","slug":"blu-ray-even-further-behind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/blu-ray-even-further-behind\/","title":{"rendered":"Blu-Ray Even Further Behind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not to be outdone by the recent delay of <a href=\"http:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/hd-dvds-delayed\/\">HD-DVD technology<\/a>, Sony has also delayed Blu-Ray consumer devices. <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/news\/sb\/2006-03-15\/#film6\">Today&#8217;s IMDb Studio Briefing reports<\/a> &#8220;that [Sony] has been forced to delay the launch of PlayStation 3 until November&#8221;. The reason cited is most curious: &#8220;to upgrade the copy-protection feature of its Blu-ray technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/eggs\/images\/blu-ray-logo.gif\" alt=\"Blu-Ray logo\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The last I heard, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD were both supposed to leverage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacsla.com\/\">Advanced Access Content System (AACS)<\/a> for content protection. Maybe Sony went off the reservation by implementing a separate DRM scheme? Or possibly there is much more to the story than can be fit in a 2-sentence news brief.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a long time since <a href=\"http:\/\/multimedia.cx\/eggs\/daily-dose-of-drm\/\">I looked at that AACS stuff<\/a>, there wasn&#8217;t much to look at. Let&#8217;s look again: Now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacsla.com\/specifications\/\">the site&#8217;s specification page<\/a> contains 7 different PDF documents.
